Low Sales and Production Numbers for South Africa, but Manganese Gains

Mineweb reported that South Africa’s preliminary statistics for mining production and sales for February 2012 are the lowest they have been since 1961, but manganese volume increased by 29 percent.

Mineweb reported that South Africa’s preliminary statistics for mining production and sales for February 2012 are the lowest they have been since 1961, but manganese volume increased by 29 percent.

As quoted in the market news:

On a positive note there were year on year volume increases for February for iron ore (+14%), chrome ore (+19%) and manganese (+29%). Coal volumes were flat. [Kobus] Nell said that the improvement in some of these numbers could be Transnet playing its part in improving its performance.
