Paladin Energy Ltd. (TSX:PDN,ASX:PDN) announced that on February 10, a truck transporting a single container of uranium oxide concentrate (UOC) from the company’s Malawi-based Kayelekera mine “for export through the Port of Walvis Bay in Namibia” fell on its side.

The company is referring to the accident as a “minor incident” and emphasizes in today’s press release that it is the “first incident involving a UOC container” to occur in 92 such product shipments.

As quoted in the press release:

The driver was not harmed; however his co-driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by the KM Medical Response Team.

A Spill Response Team (SRT) proceeded immediately from [the Kayelekera Mine (KM)] and recovered the container, which was buckled and holed by a tree stump in the incident. The SRT recovered a small quantity of UOC from the scene and also removed soil which had come into contact with the product for disposal at KM’s tailing storage facility. The accident site and surround area was subsequently subjected to a radiological check to ensure it was thoroughly cleaned
