Mining Weekly reported that National Union Mineworkers in South Africa are asking for a wage increase higher than inflation.
The market news is quoted as saying:
CoM industrial relations adviser Dr Elize Strydom said the union’s demand for a new minimum monthly wage constituted an increase of about 25%, which reflected a disregard for the consumer price index (CPI), which was currently just above 4%.
