Coal Could Be Equal Player to Oil by 2017: IEA

Reuters reported that the International Energy Agency expects that coal will grow to rival oil as a key energy source by 2017, pushed up by demand from emerging markets and from China who favour the less expensive fuel.

As quoted in the market report:

Coal’s share of the global energy mix continues to grow each year, and if no changes are made to current policies, coal will catch oil within a decade,’ IEA Executive Director Maria van der Hoeven said in a statement.
