Mining Weekly reported 4,617 of the 17,200 miners laid off in a mining dispute have been reemployed at Impala Platinum’s (JSE:IMP) Rustenberg mine.

As quoted in the market news:

The illegal industrial action started when 5 000 rock drill operators (RDOs) demanded a 50% wage increase, refusing to make use of official communication channels with management and instead embarked on illegal industrial action, which led to the dismissal of these workers.

Implats offered re-employment to these employees, and by January 27, about 700 dismissed RDOs had been re-employed and were due to start work the following day.
