Meanwhile, Kazakhstan and the US signed a memorandum of cooperation, and a slew of companies released assay and drill results.

Last week was a busy one for uranium news, with announcements coming from every corner of the globe. Perhaps most notably, a third Chinese reactor was connected to the electricity grid, and Kazakhstan and the US signed a memorandum of cooperation.
The Chinese reactor that was connected to the grid belongs to China General Nuclear. In other uranium news, the Asian nation also agreed to invest in EDF Energy’s Hinkley nuclear project in the UK. The deal will see China take a one-third interest in a new nuclear power plant, as well as a share in two further plants.
While those macro events are certainly exciting, quite a few uranium companies also put out news worth mentioning last week. Here’s a quick round-up of last week’s uranium news.

Uranium news: Drill and assay results

Kivalliq Energy (TSXV:KIV) released promising assay results from the first-ever drill program at the Dipole discovery at its Angilak property. Some highlights include 2.34 percent U3O8 over 1.3 meters from 28.3 meters to 29.6 meters in hole 15-DP-0090, as well as 21 percent U3O8 over 6.7 meters from 46.4 meters to 53.1 meters in hole 15-DP-0090.

Fission Uranium (TSX:FCU) released drill core assays from 10 angled holes at its PLS property. Two holes were drilled on the R600W zone, six on the R780E zone and two on the 1620E zone. The most notable results came from hole PLS15-416; the hole opened up the eastern side of the R780E as a new high-grade area and intersected the strongest high-grade mineralization on line 1125E.
NexGen Energy (TSXV:NXE) also released assays last week from six angled holes at its Rook 1 property, with all six holes returning strong assay results over significant widths. Hole AR-15-58c1, which was drilled 53 meters up dip and southwest of hole AR-15-44b, “confirmed some of the strongest radioactivity results associated with ample dense massive to semi-massive pitchblende in the higher grade A2 sub-zone.”
Skyharbour Resources (TSXV:SYH) announced results from a recent drill program at its 50-percent-owned Preston uranium property. It targeted two of 15 previously identified target areas that were selected for preliminary drill testing. The completed five holes covered 1,318 meters; three were completed in the Canoe Lake target area and two in the FSA target area.

Denison Mines (TSX:DML) announced the completion of summer exploration at its Wheeler River property in Saskatchewan’s Athabasca Basin and expects to complete a resource estimate for the property before the end of the year.

Uranium news: M&A activity

On a different note, Uranium Resources (NASDAQ:URRE) and Anatolia Energy (ASX:AEK) announced that Australia’s federal court has approved their plan to merge. The new securities are expected to begin trading on NASDAQ and as CHESS Depository Instruments on the ASX on November 10.
