Three-month copper prices in London rose today to $7,182.75 a tonne, a jump of nearly $36 from the previous session, Bloomberg reported. In New York, however, copper futures for December delivery were trading almost flat at $3.25 a pound, as per MarketWatch.
Helping the metal was a new survey that shows global manufacturing increased at its fastest pace in over two years in October, Reuters said. Also positive for the metal was news that the services industry has grown recently in China, the world’s largest consumer of copper. An increase in US service sector business activity last month pushed prices up as well.
