The market news is quoted as saying:

The weakness in the gold ETFs such as the GLD came as gold bullion retreated $7.67 to $1,373.25 per ounce following the jobless claims data, which at 420,000 slightly beat consensus estimates of 425,000. While the GLD and other gold ETFs opened lower, the U.S. Dollar Index declined modestly, by 0.2% to 80.455.
