Mining Weekly.com reports that Katanga Mining (TSX:KAT) is on track to complete a capacity expansion at its copper and cobalt complex in the Democratic Republic of Congo by mid-year, and has already begun work on the next phase of growth.

The market news is quoted as saying:

The phase-three expansion, approved in September 2009, will take production capacity at the company’s operations to 150 000 t/y of copper and 8 000 t/y of cobalt by the end of the second quarter.

The next step, for which the company is working on front-end engineering and early works, will be an increase to 310 000 t/y of copper and 30 000 t/y of cobalt by 2015.
