Reuters reported that the largest copper smelter in India, operated by Sterlite Industries, has been closed over concerns surrounding a gas leak. It is expected to be closed until at least next week, impacting Asian copper supply.

As quoted in the market report:

An extended shutdown of the smelter, which produces more than 300,000 tonnes per year and supplies half of India’s domestic copper needs, could spur imports and drive up prices, traders and analysts have said.
