Bright Future for Mining Exploration: Yukon Premier Darrell Pasloski
At Cambridge House International’s 2015 Vancouver Resource Investment Conference, Resource Investing News spoke with the Honorable Darrel Pasloski, premier of the Yukon, about the benefits and challenges of mining and exploration in the territory.
At Cambridge House International’s 2015 Vancouver Resource Investment Conference, Resource Investing News spoke with the Honorable Darrel Pasloski, premier of the Yukon, about the benefits and challenges of mining and exploration in the territory.
The Yukon government has undertaken several initiatives that could benefit the mining industry, including switching to LNG infrastructure and building a new hydro dam to provide cheaper power. Furthermore, Premier Pasloski mentioned that the territory currently has the largest transportation capital budget in its history, meaning that the Yukon is investing in roads, rail, bridges and other transportation infrastructure that could make projects more accessible.
That environment has helped miners such as ATAC Resources (TSXV:ATC), Alexco Resource (TSX:AXR), Victoria Gold (TSXV:VIT), Wellgreen Platinum (TSX:WG) and Western Copper and Gold (TSX:WRN) to explore and advance projects in the area.
The premier also discussed First Nations and mining projects in the Yukon and the affordability of bringing a mine to production in the territory. Overall, he seemed supportive of the industry, and when asked about the future for exploration in the Yukon, he replied that things look “very bright.”
“Wherever we have some control, that’s where we’re working right now to ensure, as we come out of what has been a downturn, that we’re in a great position for Yukoners, for mining companies and of course, for investors as well,” he said.
