Mining Weekly reported that Transnet Freight Rail is putting together the first distributed power train for manganese. It will be made up of 208 wagons and is aimed at increasing the amount of manganese that is exported from Port Elizabeth and Coega in South Africa.
As quoted in the market news:
The distributed power train makes use of the same technology that Transnet deploys down the Sishen–Saldanha iron-ore line, frequented by long 342-wagon trains.
Typically, the trains on the manganese general freight line to Port Elizabeth have been shorter, generally consisting of 104 wagons.
The one-off trial run will be made up of a combination of two 104-wagon sets, with locomotives at the front and rear.
