Copper ended 2014 with a 14 percent decrease, according to Reuters. This represents the metal’s largest annual decline in three years.

The precious metal fell 0.41 percent on Wednesday to reach $6,299 per tonne. Meanwhile, CommodityHQ reported copper futures fell to their lowest level in more than four years last week. Copper continued this trend this week, declining 0.2 percent to $2.8475 a pound on Wednesday, according to Bloomberg.

Besides a strengthening U.S. dollar, much of this is being attributed to weaker demand from China, a major copper consumer.
