On Thursday, U.S. gold futures fell below $1,100 an ounce.

Gold for February delivery GCG0 down $17.50, or 1.6 percent, at $1,095.10 an ounce at 10:47 a.m. EST (1547 GMT) on the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
