The news outlet notes that the yellow metal’s movement came as investors sought lower-risk places to put their capital after western countries warned of sanctions on Moscow following Crimea’s vote to separate from Ukraine.

Bullion, which has gained 15 percent so far this year, is headed for its biggest quarterly gain in 27 years on geopolitical tensions and slowing economic growth.
