Nissan CEO plans to introduce the Leaf, a small, all-electric car (earlier this year we test-drove a prototype) next year. This will be the first purpose-built EV from a major manufacturer since the 1996 GM EV-1.

Nissan CEO plans to introduce the Leaf, a small, all-electric car (earlier this year we test-drove a prototype) next year. This will be the first purpose-built EV from a major manufacturer since the 1996 GM EV-1.

The news release is quoted as saying:

Nissan is investing more than $4 billion in the program to design the car and to develop the lithium-ion battery pack with parent company NEC. This is an ambitious and some say risky plan, because it’s still unclear if there are enough EV customers to justify the costly program.
