The gold price climbed 0.5 percent on Tuesday to reach $1,179.25 an ounce. Meanwhile, gold futures for August delivery rose $5.30 to reach $1,178.90 an ounce. Those increases have been attributed to weakened stock markets and increased commodities prices across the board, Reuters reported.
The uptick in the gold price is welcome considering the metal fell on Friday to its lowest point since March 19. That drop was in response to upbeat US payroll data, which furthered assumptions that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates in September for the first time in nearly a decade.
