Mineweb.com reports that modifications to a new law that will protect glaciers from mining, including  for lead, in Chile might be delayed.

The editorial is quoted as saying:

Pan American Silver CEO Geoff Burns said Tuesday the death of former Argentine President Nestor Kirchner and the countrywide debate on the new law to protect glaciers from mining may mean the Chubut Province’s ban on all open-pit mining and cyanide mining processes may not be amended until after provincial elections in late March.
