KAZ: Copper Production Up 7 Percent in Q3

The CEO of KAZ highlighted the ramp-up of the company’s newest mine in Kazakhstan as a standout for the quarter.

KAZ Minerals (LSE:KAZ) has released its third quarter and nine month production results for 2018, reporting an increase of 7 percent in copper production to 77,200 tonnes from its three mines in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

CEO of KAZ, Andrew Southam said:

“In 2018 the group delivered a smooth ramp up and benefited from high copper grades at its newest mine, Aktogay, with copper output 12 percent above the same period in 2017. Following a strong third quarter across KAZ Minerals’ assets we are well placed to achieve our full year copper production target and the top end of our gold and silver guidance.”

As highlighted in the press release, numbers from the Aktogay operations:

  • Copper production increased by 2 percent to 34,900 tonnes (Q2 2018: 34,100 tonnes) mainly due to seasonally higher oxide output
  • Full year copper production expected to be in upper half of 110,000-130,000guidance range
