Copper Falls to $7,278 per tonne Before Recouping Some Losses

Copper Futures slipped to their lowest since December 24.

Copper for April delivery on the London Metal Exchange was down on January 6 to $7,278.75 per tonne​, its lowest price since December 24, according to Reuters. Later, the metal rose to $7,290 a tonne, still down $24.79 from the previous session.

On the Comex in New York, copper futures for March delivery fell $0.01 to $3.34 a pound, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Worries about the Chinese economy have impacted the price of copper. The current price is near a two-week low and follows news that China, which accounts for 40 percent of global copper demand, is struggling economically. Data about reduced manufacturing activity in the country was followed by news of a slowdown in its service sector.
