Underground Collapse at Austar Hunter Valley Mine, Two Killed

The Guardian reported today that two workers were killed in a mine collapse on Tuesday night. A wall collapsed in the New South Wales Austar coal mine just after 9 pm, trapping and killing the two men. Mining operations have ceased at the site owned by parent company Yancoal Australia Ltd. (ASX:YAL).

As quoted in the market news:

A crime scene has been established and will be examined by forensic officers. Several inquiries are being set up, including by the state government’s trade and investment department and by Mines Rescue Services. A report is being prepared for the coroner.
