TCE Today reported that the Australian government will fund two advanced coal projects in Victoria totaling A$50 million. According to TCE, A$30 million will go to Coal Energy Australia for a demonstration production plant, while Ignite Energy Resources has been granted A$20 million for a pre-commercial production plant.
As quoted in the publication:
Both plants will be based in the Latrobe Valley region and are funded under the Advanced Lignite Demonstration Program (ALDP) – a joint scheme between the federal and state governments. Both plants will take comparatively cheap brown coal and use it to produce high value products including oil, fertiliser and upgraded coal.
