CBC News reported today that seventeen coal miners died as a result of an explosion at a coal mine operated by Dahuangshan Yuxin Coal Mining Co. Ltd.. The country has some of the world’s deadliest mines, according to the CBC.

As quoted in the publication:

The miners were trapped Saturday by the explosion at a mine 120 kilometres from Urumqi, the capital of the Xinjiang region, the Xinhua News Agency said. It said Monday they had died and the cause of the incident was under investigation.
