The De Beers Group has been very busy lately. As the Oppenheimer family—the longtime owner of the diamond mining, distribution and marketing company—prepares to sell its remaining 40 percent share of the company to London-based mining giant Anglo American, it recently announced two moves that will affect its relationship with the U.S. and how it sells diamonds to its network of dealers.
