Mineweb reported that investors in London and in Johannesburg responded favourably in Monday trading to news that Anglo American’s CEO Cynthia Carrol was resigning.
As quoted in the market report:
A few days ago reports in London emerged, suggesting that Carroll would step aside and be replaced by Xstrata’s Mick Davis, so today’s announcement that she would resign came as no real surprise to the market. In fact, investors cheered on the move with Anglo up 4% in London and 2.5% on the JSE. South Africa and the mining giant’s fortunes are intricately tied together.
