Nemaska Lithium (TSXV:NMX) announced the publishing of two of its core patent applications. The first covers Nemaska’s technology for producing lithium hydroxide from lithium sulphate via electrolysis, as well as its impurity removal systems, while the second patent application covers the transformation of lithium hydroxide into lithium carbonate.

As quoted in the press release:

Subsequent to the filing of the initial core patent applications, Nemaska also filed 4 additional patents which cover optimization and evolution of the technology as a result of the Corporation’s ongoing optimization programs. Nemaska is awaiting review of these patent applications and is anticipating the assignment of PCT application numbers in the near future. The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) is an international patent law treaty. It provides a unified procedure for filing patent applications to protect inventions in each of its contracting states (countries). The assigning of the PCT number and official filing date is an important step in filing and receiving patents in 148 member states which includes United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, China, Japan, India, Australia, Brazil, etc.

Nemaska Lithium CEO, Guy Bourassa, said:

We continue to evaluate our ongoing process optimization programs for new patent opportunities and we will be vigilant in the protection of our intellectual property. The true value of our IP portfolio is becoming understood by both the lithium industry and the investment community, especially as one witnesses the evolution of EV batteries and the shift toward the adoption of lithium hydroxide as the chemical of choice over lithium carbonate.” Mr. Bourassa continued, “Our discussions with both end users and existing producers of lithium chemical compounds continue to advance. The publication of our patent applications is an important step and strengthens our value proposition.
