Nano One Materials (TSXV:NNO) reported that NORAM Engineering and Constructors and BC Research have commenced work to provide a conceptual design and cost estimate for a commercial facility to produce lithium ion battery cathode materials. The company is receiving financial support from Canada’s National Research Council Industrial Research Assistance Program as part of a larger project funding agreement.

As quoted in the press release:

NORAM and BCRI are globally recognized in process engineering and have designed, scaled and built industrial chemical plants around the world. They are providing laboratory, incubation and piloting facilities to Nano One along with technology development, scale-up and commercialization know-how, engineering design and fabrication support.

Clive Brereton, Ph.D., leads all process development work at BCRI as Director and stated that “BCRI have been very impressed by the strong technical skills brought to the project by Nano One’s staff and their capacity to focus research and development activities towards the path of commercialization.”

The conceptual design study will provide Nano One with preliminary process flow diagrams (PFD), three-dimensional layouts and cost estimations for the equipment, installation and operation of a full commercial system operating at approximately 10,000 kg/day.

Nano One CEO, Dan Blondal, stated:

The industrial collaboration that has unfolded between NORAM, BCRI, NRC-IRAP and Nano One is adding tremendous value to our company. The collective commercialization experience is advancing our technology and the credibility of our business and we are buoyed by the confidence they have in the scalability of our technology. We look forward to committing the conceptual design to a demonstration pilot line over the coming year and to ramping up our third party battery materials test program.
