MetalBulletin reported that in September, China’s imports of cobalt ore and concentrate fell to 11,774 tonnes, a 22.8-percent decrease from the year-ago period and a 44.7-percent decline from the previous month.

As quoted in the market news:

‘Raw material supply has been decreasing for a while. The comparatively high levels in the past month or so were due to shipments delayed in the previous months,’ a major smelter said. Imports fell 44.7% month-on-month in September, according to the latest customs data. Preliminary discussions for supply of cobalt raw material have already begun between miners and buyers. While talk among western participants at the recent LME Week in London centred on the reduction in intermediate supplies, Chinese buyers remain confident, they told Metal Bulletin.
