Trevali Mining Corporation (“Trevali” or the “Company”) (TSX:TV) regrets to announce that a fatality has occurred in underground preparation and development activities at the Perkoa Mine in Burkina Faso.
On August 8, 2018, a fatal accident claimed the life of one miner who was employed by the Company’s mine contractor Byrnecut Burkina Faso. Upon knowledge of the tragic accident, all underground operations were immediately suspended and authorities notified.
The Perkoa senior management team on site is working closely with the Byrnecut operations team to thoroughly investigate the accident in conjunction with government authorities.
The well-being of the miner’s family and friends, and our other employees and workers at Perkoa, is a priority for Trevali and the Company will work closely with its contractors to ensure that support and counselling services are available as required.
“We are all truly saddened by this tragic accident and extend our sincere condolences to the miner’s family, friends and colleagues,” stated Dr. Mark Cruise, Trevali’s President and CEO. “Safety has always been a top priority for the Company and we will ensure this accident is fully investigated and any key learnings shared with all of the Trevali operations.”
