In a statement late Thursday, Premier and State Development Minister Colin Barnett described the approval as a “significant step in securing new infrastructure vital to the development of the Mid-West mineral province and to Western Australia’s future development.” The rail corridor approval would enable the troubled Oakajee Port and Rail consortium “to proceed with detailed planning and design for a railway to bring ore from deposits from the region’s north and east to Oakajee,” said Barnett in the joint statement with Transport Minister Troy Buswell.
