Foran Mining Corporation (TSXV:FOM) announced the results from the first drill hole completed at the Bigstone deposit, as part of its winter 2015 exploration program, which hit 18.4 percent zinc over 11.78 meters including 27 percent zinc over 7.62 meters.

Foran Mining Corporation (TSXV:FOM) announced the results from the first drill hole completed at the Bigstone deposit, as part of its winter 2015 exploration program, which hit 18.4 percent zinc over 11.78 meters including 27 percent zinc over 7.62 meters.

As quoted in the press release:

  • Highlights from the first of six drill holes completed at Bigstone include 18.4 percent zinc over 11.78 meters (including 27.0 percent zinc over 7.62 meters) from the zinc zone, followed further downhole by 1.4 percent copper over 10.59 meters and 1.3 percent copper over 8.47 meters from the underlying copper zone in BS-15-240; the first two of these intercepts are within an approximately 95 meters intersection of massive to semi-massive, stringer, and disseminated sulphides1
  • Intervals within the zinc zone grade up to 41.7 percent zinc over 0.98 meters
  • Drilling at Bigstone is now complete – results from the remaining five holes will be released in the coming weeks

The Bigstone deposit is located 25 kilometers southwest of Foran’s McIlvenna Bay deposit in east-central Saskatchewan, where the Company announced the results of a positive preliminary economic assessment in late 2014

The Bigstone deposit has an historic mineral resource which includes a copper zone with an estimated 3.75 million tonnes grading 2.03 percent copper and 0.33 g/t silver (1 percent copper cutoff), and an adjacent zinc zone with an estimated 0.53 million tonnes grading 9.62 percent zinc and 15.9 g/t silver (5 percent zinc cutoff). The historic mineral resource outlines a vertically oriented, flattened, cylindrical shaped body, in part drill tested between 100 and 700 meters below surface.

Patrick Soares, president and CEO of Foran, commented:

“In our first drill hole into the historic mineral resource at Bigstone, Foran intersected a broad zone of mineralization which included a very high-grade zone of zinc mineralization. The recent positive results from the Thunder Zone, combined with these first results from Bigstone, demonstrate that our exploration surrounding the McIlvenna Bay Deposit continues to be successful, providing us the opportunity to add to our existing large resource base. We look forward to receiving the results from the remaining holes drilled into this satellite deposit near McIlvenna Bay
