Quantenna Communications (NASDAQ:QTNA) and Plume Design announced that the companies have integrated Quantenna’s leading-edge Wi-Fi chipset with Plume’s Adaptive WiFi AI driven mesh solution for the next generation of mesh networking solutions.

As quoted in the press release:

Quantenna’s QSR5GU-AX PLUS has a unique 9-stream dual-band architecture, consisting of 5×5 MIMO in 5 GHz and 4×4 MIMO in 2.4GHz plus an embedded CPU.

The necessity for a cloud centric mesh network that can adapt to the needs of client devices both reactively and predictively is being driven by increasing demand for high throughput applications from a broad range of devices spread across the home.  Addressing these demands, Quantenna’s QSR5GU-AX PLUS and its unique 5×5 MIMO architecture with advanced spectrum management comes pre-integrated with the Plume Middle Layer (PML) for off-the-shelf Adaptive WiFi™. This solution enables service providers to roll-out the world’s most advanced mesh networking rapidly and at massive scale. This latest offering adds to the portfolio of tightly integrated Quantenna and Plume solutions which have been shipping to Tier 1 service providers since 2017.

The QSR5GU-AX PLUS is Quantenna’s latest addition to its 802.11ax family, targeting mainstream access points, home gateways and mesh extenders with unique features such as:

  • Support for 5×5 MIMO in the 5GHz band: The addition of a fifth chain allows up to 50% more speed, compared to a 4×4 MIMO design.
  • Background scanning: 5×5 allows using one chain for background 5GHz scanning without interrupting data transmissions, leading to improved network performance.
  • Always-on DFS: This algorithm intelligently selects and operates in the cleanest DFS channel including the weather radar channels.

Plume’s Adaptive WiFi™ technology provides fast and consistent network speeds by optimizing home Wi-Fi using AI. It adapts to the internet usage in the home and intelligently allocates bandwidth, mitigates interference, guides mobile clients to roam seamlessly across the home, and delivers maximum Wi-Fi capacity for optimal user experience across all connected devices. Central to the Plume solution is a massively scalable cloud control plane that enables operators to rapidly roll-out, manage and support innovative new services to increase ARPU, enhance user satisfaction and reduce churn.

“Plume has an impressive track record of success with leading edge mesh technology and Quantenna has a long history of Wi-Fi innovations,” said Dr. Sam Heidari, Chairman and CEO of Quantenna. “We are excited to be working with Plume on the next-generation of solutions for mesh networking within the home.”

“Quantenna has consistently been first to market with high performance and latest generation Wi-Fi silicon platforms,” said Fahri Diner, co-founder and CEO of Plume. “This impressive 802.11ax platform from Quantenna paired with Plume Adaptive WiFi is a complete game changer for the modern home.”
