As U.S. Presidential election campaigns take off, cybersecurity is becoming a major campaign topic.
    According to Politico:

GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush rolled out his cybersecurity platform Monday, and while it isn’t radical — he supports cybersecurity information sharing legislation and ending sequestration on cyber-focused agencies, for instance — it’s the latest evidence that cybersecurity is here to stay in 2016. In the first GOP debate, cyber came up several times (encryption, China, Hillary Clinton’s private email server), and we’ve seen it dot campaign speeches and events since. Then we have an independent presidential candidate, John McAfee, running on a cybersecurity platform. And billionaire Mark Cuban is flirting with a campaign that would be focused in part on cyber: https://cnb.cx/1M6GNEg

The motives for Republicans to bring up cybersecurity: 1. It gives them a chance to bash Clinton over her private server. 2. It gives them a chance to paint President Barack Obama as soft on foreign policy, especially toward China and Russia, and to pin attacks on what they identify as an incompetent administration.
