The top gainer this past week was Quaterra Resources. The company, which released good news regarding its option agreement with Freeport-McMoRan Nevada, was followed by Ascot Resources, Great Quest Fertilizer, Nevada Zinc and Alexander Nubia International.

Though the TSX Venture Exchange declined overall last week, this week it managed to close up after a 0.19-percent rise on Friday. It ended the week at 683.89 points.

During the period, a number of companies managed to post impressive gains. The top gainer was Quaterra Resources (TSXV:QTA,OTCMKTS:QTRRF), and it was followed by Ascot Resources (TSXV:AOT,ASX:AZQ), Great Quest Fertilizer (TSXV:GQ), Nevada Zinc (TSXV:NZN,OTCMKTS:GDSKF) and Alexander Nubia International (TSXV:AAN,OTCMKTS:ANLBF).

    Quaterra Resources

The share price of copper exploration and development company Quaterra Resources improved the most this week, gaining 37.5 percent to hit $0.11.

On June 15, Quaterra announced that Freeport-McMoRan Nevada, a subsidiary of Freeport McMoRan (NYSE:FCX), has completed Stage 1 of an option agreement for the company’s projects in Nevada’s Yerington district. Freeport-McMoRan Nevada will now move on to Stage 2 of the agreement and will make option payments of US$7.1 million to Quaterra over the next 12 months. The money will be put towards exploration of the Bear deposit.

    Ascot Resources

Ascot Resources is an exploration company with three projects in Canada: Premier/Dilworth, Mount Margaret and Swamp Point. Premier/Dilworth, a gold project in British Columbia, is currently in the exploration stage. Ascot has released no news since starting its 2015 drill program at that project on April 20; however, its share price rose 35.71 percent this past week to hit $1.90.

    Great Quest Fertilizer

Canada-based mineral exploration company Great Quest Fertilizer is currently focused on advancing its Tilemsi phosphate project. The project is located in Mali, where the company also holds a gold permit in the Birimian Gold Belt.

Great Quest’s share price rose 31.11 percent this week to hit $0.59. Like Ascot, the company did not release any news that would explain the increase. Most recently, on June 4, it received an environmental permit to develop Tilemsi and construct a production facility.

    Nevada Zinc

Nevada Zinc owns the Lone Mountain zinc project near Eureka, Nevada. The junior miner is currently focused on defining the potential of the property.

The company did not release any news to explain its 28.57-percent share price rise this week. However, at the beginning of the month, Nevada Zinc announced its best assay results at the property to date, and noted that it has yet to drill in several areas that could yield further mineralization.

    Alexander Nubia International

Precious and base metals exploration company Alexander Nubia International is focused on two metals projects in Egypt. On June 9, the company announced the discovery of gold and silver mineralization at its Hamama West project.

This past week, its share price hit $0.12 for a 27.78-percent gain.
