Unions Supportive of Mechanisation at Royal Bafokeng Platinum’s Styldrift Project

Mining Weekly reported that the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has given its nod of approval for Royal Bafokeng Platinum’s (JSE:RBP) plans to use mechanised mining at its Styldrift project. 70 percent of the company’s employees are members of NUM, according to Mining Weekly.

As quoted in the publication:

The Styldrift reef, which is 2-m-thick in parts and considerably uniform, lends itself to mechanised bord-and-pillar mining and the optimisation exercise, in fact, added 1 000 jobs to the initially envisaged labour complement of 3 000.
