Mining Weekly reported platinum production in South Africa for January was down 20% year on year due mainly to Impala Platinum’s (JSE:IMP) six-week strike.

As quoted in the market news:

Compared with December’s production, output declined by 15.3% last month, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) reported on Tuesday.

February’s figures would continue to reflect the impact of the Implats strike on PGMs production, while weaker global growth prospects would also be a drag on activity, Nedbank said in a statement.
