Resting Platinum’s Hopes on Jewelry

Mineweb reported an interview with Geoff Candy and Macquarie’s Hayden Atkins, who says the future hope for platinum rests with jewelry.

 It does look quite difficult for platinum over the next 12 months and we are coming from a starting point today where the market is probably in a surplus or maybe closer to balance.  So the starting point for the market is fairly weak and when you look into 2012 from some of the key sectors of demand, industrial applications and all those in particular, it looks pretty stormy when you look somewhere like Europe, so the expectation will be that that will be very weak and I think that’s probably fair.
