The Financial Times reported that today palladium hit $900 per troy ounce for the first time since 2001.

Walter de Wet, an analyst at Standard Bank in South Africa, said the gain was largely due to tension and uncertainty regarding Russia.

As quoted in the market news:

After dipping to $836 a troy ounce on August 6, as investors took profits, the palladium price has climbed steadily on fresh speculative interest. On Monday afternoon it traded at $897 a troy ounce, up 0.7 per cent for the day, and the highest level since February 2001.
