The Sydney Morning Herald reports that in precious metals gold rose to a record high above $1,520 an ounce after the Federal Reserve announcement that it would keep US interest rates very low.

The market news is quoted as saying,

Platinum was last up 1.3 per cent at $1,822.50 an ounce, while palladium was up 1.4 per cent at $763.25.
