Resource Investing News’ first infographic visualizes the BGS Risk List 2011 in a concise, intuitive manner, stressing the supply risk ranking of 52 elements and element groups, which are critical to our global economy.
The factors used by the British Geological Survey to determine the position on the list were scarcity of the elements, the regional distribution of current production, and the political stability (governance) of these locations. However, the list does not take into account the importance of an element to a particular technology or application or its substitute potential.
The elements facing the highest supply risk are those whose production is almost exclusively located in China.
