CNBC reported that Australian miner Lynas Corp. has received Malaysian government approval to begin production at the first rare earths refinery in years outside of China. Concerns about radioactive waste leaks have caused months of delays.

Lynas said in a statement Wednesday it can now transport rare earths concentrate to Malaysia and potentially start the refinery in October.
