Syrah Resources (ASX:SYR) has provided a progress report as it continues metallurgical testwork on its wholly owned Balama graphite and vanadium deposit in Mozambique. Highlights include the commencement of a Scoping Study, the upgrading of Balama vanadium to a 98.5% vanadium pentoxide chemical powder concentrate, and a decision to include vanadium in the Balama bankable feasibility study.

As quoted in the press release:

Syrah’s metallurgical testwork to date shows that the vanadium reports to the tailings during the graphite flotation process. Assays on the graphite concentrate show that vanadium is below detectable limits in the graphite concentrate.

Following successful completion of the initial vanadium concentration, a two-step development program was commissioned to develop suitable chemical processes for the production of high purity (99.9%) V2O5 chemical powder and 98.5% V2O5 flake.
