The press release is quoted as saying:

The Carlin Vanadium Deposit was discovered in the 1960s by Union Carbide Corp. (UCC) when significantly anomalous vanadium was found in samples collected by UCC Geologists (Galli, 1968, Morgan, 1968). During 1967 and 1968 Union Carbide conducted exploration work including geological mapping, ~15,000 feet of trenching, and ~36,500 feet of drilling in 112 holes outlining a zone of vanadium mineralization within the current claim boundary.
