Benchmark Mineral Intelligence reported that the Benchmark Graphite Index fell an additional 3 percentage points in June.
Benchmark Mineral Intelligence reported that the Benchmark Graphite Index fell an additional 3 percentage points in June — that places it down 2.5 percent from the previous month and down 4.7 percent since the start of the year.
As quoted in the market news:
Flake graphite prices fell for a sixth consecutive month in June 2015 as producers continued to lower prices in response to low consumption rates.
With Chinese producers resuming operations over the summer months, inventory levels began to rise again, particularly in China, where suppliers had spent much of H1 destocking.
This influx of material saw supply-side pressures persist, particularly for finer mesh grades which remain in excess.
Tighter supply conditions for larger mesh products have seen the price of these grades show more resilience, however some downward pressure remains with consumers seeking to cut costs.
Moving into Q3 2015, supply-side pressures are likely to continue which could see further price reductions in July.
