A long-running battle by local landowners against various aspects of the $US1.5 billion ($1.4 billion) Ramu nickel/cobalt mine is due to come to a head on Tuesday when Justice David Cannings hands down his decision on whether its proposed dumping of mine waste offshore, formally referred to as Deep Sea Tailings Placement, is too environmentally damaging to be allowed.
