Humala Finance Minister Seeks ’Competive’ Mining Industry While Taxes Rise

Bloomberg reports that Peruvian President Ollanta Humala’s government is discussing a new mining windfall tax with mining companies.

The market news is quoted as saying:

Mining companies are waiting for the outcome of the negotiations before moving ahead with about $40 billion in planned investment, Finance Minister Miguel Castilla said today. Peru is the world’s third-largest copper and zinc producer.
