Mining Weekly reported Western Areas (TSX:WSA,ASX:WSA) reported record sales for the first quarter of 2012 despite a decrease in production.

As quoted in the market news:

Nickel production during the March quarter fell to 7 602 t, from 8 572 t produced in the three months to December.

The production decline was attributed to lower output from the Tim King pit, at the Spotted Quoll operation, as well as lower production from the Flying Fox mine.
