Reuters reported at the end of last week that Russia’s Norilsk Nickel (MCX:GMKN) produced 285,292 tonnes of nickel in 2013, a 5-percent decrease from 2012.

Reuters reported at the end of last week that Russia’s Norilsk Nickel (MCX:GMKN) produced 285,292 tonnes of nickel in 2013, a 5-percent decrease from 2012. The decline was due to a number of factors, including “a reduction of grades in the processed ore, lower deliveries of semi-finished products and the mothballing of its Lake Johnston operations in Australia.”

As quoted in the market news:

Norilsk did not provide a 2014 production forecast for all its assets, which include operations in Finland and Africa.

At its Russian operations, the company plans to produce 225,000 to 235,000 tonnes of nickel and 340,000 to 350,000 tonnes of copper.

Its 2014 Russian output of palladium is expected to be 2.5-2.6 million ounces and of platinum 625,000-635,000 ounces, the company said.
