Mineweb reported that Nazario Moreno Gonzalez, leader of the Knights Templar cartel, which has been in the news lately for illegally exporting iron ore, was killed on March 9. He had previously been reported dead in December 2010.
As quoted in the market news:
On March 3, more than 300 federal agents and military personnel raided various storage yards in the Port of Lazaro Cardenas, seizing 119,000 tonnes of iron ore value at $15.4 million, along with heavy equipment, trucks, backhoes, conveyers, crushers and generators. Authorities say the Knights Templar gang controls the entire mining production chain and is shipping illegal iron ore to China. Mining is now apparently one of the gang’s main sources of income.
Now Mexico authorities claimed that on Sunday, March 9, that fingerprint tests have confirmed 100% that they killed Moreno in an early morning shootout. Moreno’s body has been moved to Apatzingan and is in military custody.
