Innu First Nations to Enter $900 Million Lawsuit Against IOC, Rio Tinto
The CBC reported that the Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC), majority owned by Rio Tinto (NYSE:RIO,ASX:RIO,LSE:RIO), could soon be facing a class action lawsuit against the Innu First Nation. A ruling has rejected earlier efforts by the IOC to dismiss the lawsuit.

The Innu First Nations of Uashat Mak Mani-Utenam (Uashaunnuat) and Matimekush-Lac John (MLJ) claim the IOC, which is majority-owned by Rio Tinto, caused harm by operating a large mining complex and railway on traditional territory in northeastern Quebec and Labrador since the 1950s without their prior consent.
